This is the second of two posts on playing with water. See my first post here.
C loves to play in the water. Since he could walk he has usually "helped" wash dishes and can't get enough of watering the plants indoors and out.
I used to give him two cups (outside)- one full of water and the other empty. He would pour them back and forth until all the water eventually spilled.
I figured I needed to come up with another activity involving water for him that he could do indoors or out.
I took two towels and laid them on the kitchen floor (where I was working), filled one bowl full of water, and gave him another bowl, a cup, measuring cup, and measuring spoon.
C had a blast scooping water with the measuring cup into the cup and then pouring into the empty bowl. He was transferring water in so many ways and had a blast doing it.
Eventually the towels were pretty wet, but I used them to mop up the remaining water and down they went to the washer. Little cleanup for an activity that probably kept him busy for an hour.
Remember, everything is a learning tool. While this is a great activity to keep a child busy it can also be a great opportunity for them to learn about fractions, space, and math in general- with little to no interaction from you.
