No More TV- an update

Some of you may recall reading my no more TV post.  If not, you can catch up here.

I thought I'd write a post and let you know how it's been going.  It's been 5 months without cable.

It's certainly been going well.  There are times I miss my favorite tv shows, but I quickly get over it.  I've been enjoying audio books and more time reading.

I still haven't signed up for Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon streaming.  I plan to try one of them eventually, but for right now I'm content.  Maybe next fall I could sign up for Netflix and catch up on the previous year's shows.  If I can't wait that long I'll sign up for Hulu Plus.  For now, I'm basking in a 70/month cost savings.

We still have internet, so I'm able to connect to the outside world in various ways and catch up on the news.

A couple significant news events have happened during my no TV time.  At first I felt disconnected, but I realized I wasn't going online (ever) to catch up on news.  That was my mistake.  It was nice to avoid some news and commercials, but it's still important to have an idea of what's happening in the world.

If you've never gone without TV for any period of time I encourage you to try it.  Try a week.  Then, try to extend it if it's going well.

On a side note; C doesn't miss it.  In fact he didn't even know we didn't have cable for a while.  He hardly ever watched shows on TV.  When he did watch something it was from our limited supply of Thomas/ Superbook/ Hermie and Friends DVDs.

I wrote the above post 2/15.  Today is 2/23 and today I signed up for Hulu Plus.  I contemplated most of the day, but I was able to get a month for free.  I'd been hanging onto a code for a while.  If you're interested in Hulu Plus, please click here for 2 free weeks.

It will get you two free weeks.  Most avenues only get you one week free.  It's also shameless self promotion, because we both get two weeks free.  I don't make money off of this blog, so two weeks of free Hulu Plus would be awesome.  Thank you if you choose to use my link.

After your trial period it is only 7.99/month.  Not bad really, versus the 70/month for cable.

Hulu Plus can be used through your pc, tablet, phone, ipad, and many gaming systems by using your wifi internet connection.  It's very easy.  My favorite part is that if you pause it on your TV, you can go on your tablet and resume watching it right where you left off.

Some people tried to steer me towards Netflix because Hulu Plus has ads.  The ads are very quick and not a big deal to me.  They only add a two to three minutes to the overall show versus at least 15 minutes on actual TV.

There is also a wide variety of TV shows for adults and children on Hulu Plus.  Looks like many PBS shows are included (I know they're popular with many parents).

I'd love to hear your feedback on no TV, Hulu Plus or anything relatable.
