C and I made these Pretzel Rolls (as showcased in my Valentine's post) last week. However, we of course didn't follow the recipe to the letter.
First, I made the dough in the bread machine. Not sure if this was a no, no, but it seemed to work out fine.
Here are a few photos of the progress.
All rolled up and ready for the oven. Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of them before they went into the water and covered with egg.
C was disappointed we couldn't make letters. I told him we would use the dough to make letters, but unfortunately it's very difficult to take a C (or other letters), put them in water, and expect them to look the same when you're done. He did enjoy using a chunk of dough like play-doh and making his own pretzel patty.
As you can see, the C worked out.
These were good. In fact I think they were better that evening. However, I didn't have pretzel salt, so I just used our salt grinder. Definitely a mistake. I really think pretzel salt would've made all the difference.
Remember to get your children involved in the cooking! Have them pour in ingredients, roll out dough, and make their own dough creations.
Have you made these or something similar before? Any tips/ tricks?
