Our local Lowes has projects for kids every couple of weeks and earlier this month the project was a gingerbread house. Of course I needed to take C.
He was very excited, but disappointed to find that it didn't come with a gingerbread.
After some Facebook discussion looking for a small toy gingerbread, my friend suggested I make one.
And my felt gingerbread was born. It's not fancy or perfect, but he likes it.
I simply used supplies I had on hand. This burgundy color was the best gingerbread color I had. You can also see my embroidery floss collection below. It's from when I was a teenager, so it's full of girly colors , thus somewhat limiting. Also, making one so small was a little more challenging than I realized going in.
What you need:Felt (color you'd like your gingerbread)
Embroidery floss (whatever colors you desire)
Sewing needle
Scissors
2 cotton balls
Something to push the cotton balls into the gingerbread (this black thing was from some scratch-off ornaments and it worked perfectly!)
Note: this took me a little over two hours start to finish.
1-Freehand cut two pieces of felt into a gingerbread shape.
2-Start sewing eyes, mouth, buttons, and any other details desired onto one gingerbread.
3-Place two felt pieces together front facing (or inside out).
4-Stitch pieces together, leaving enough space at the end to turn right side out.
5-Turn right side out.
6-Break up cotton ball and begin placing small pieces into the gingerbread. Use your tool to be sure it gets in all the tiny spots.
7-Stitch the remaining part of the gingerbread and stuff with more cotton ball as needed while doing this.
