No TV- Our Cable Went Out The Door

It's nearing two months of no cable at our home.  Here's how it's going.

We're saving money.  I like that!  This was my purpose in cancelling cable.

I'm finding time to read!

I also have time to complete my Bible study homework and get into the Bible more on my own.

No incessant background noise (if others leave the TV on)!  The house has a few moments of silence every now and then.

The only thing that is difficult for me is that I'm used to sitting down in the evening in front of the TV for a few minutes with a snack or when I'm by myself for a meal.  I like having those few moments of "brainless" TV.  However, there were times it became more than a couple mnutes, because i wanted to finish a show.  Now, that's not a problem.

For C, it makes no difference.  He rarely watched TV as is was, so now, if something's on it's a DVD that we own.

Honestly, I'm amazed at the ease in transition.  I loved watching my shows weekly, but I'm finding I really don't miss them.  If I do, I'll be checking out Hulu Plus or Netflix.  But for now, we're Cable free and I'm loving it.

I do still rent from Redbox when I have a free rental code.  I think there's been three that I've used during this time.

Have you ever gone without TV/ cable for a period of time?  How did it go?

  1. I love not being committed to a time slot, or what channels I get. The boys and I mostly listen to music during the day/afternoon. But I do tend to have tv on when I'm folding laundry or hand sewing.
